AI Will Replace Humans… But Not Right Now

Econometrics | Public Choice

Artificial Intelligence is not what you think. It is not real intelligence, hence it being artificial. But many think with the rise of ChatGPT that AI is ready to take over humans and our jobs. But it is not.

AI is a prediction modeling system that looks at past metrics to determine the mostly likely future outcome. This is what ChatGPT does. It looks at what word is most likely to be next in the sentence and concatenates it to the sentence. It keeps doing this until it gets a paragraph or essay.

How Does it Learn?

But where does it learn what word is to most likely appear in the next sentence? From text written on the internet. And who wrote that text? Humans. AI doesn’t generate anything new. It just recreates what humans have already created. Without humans there is no AI.

If humans stopped creating more content on the internet, whether that’s blogs, videos, or songs, all AI models would stagnate in their production value. The reason for this is because AI doesn’t create content. So it would just be using the same content on the internet to produce the same generated response. It will never learn or grow because there is no new content for it learn or grow.

Replacing Humans

AI can’t, right now, replace humans. It is not ready. The way it is currently built, it will never replace humans. But what it does do is help humans create better content. It can be used as a template for taking your new ideas and putting it into cohesive thoughts.

This is my fear with the way people use AI. Many will think that is a great way to generate new content. But it is not. And if humans stop creating unique content not generated by AI. All “new” content created will be AI generated content based on other AI generated content which is from old human generated content. Nothing will be new and it is just the same content regurgitated to look new.

Creative AI

In addition, AI lacks creativity, flexibility, and the ability to think outside the box. It cannot come up with novel ideas or find solutions to problems it hasn’t been programmed to solve. AI also lacks emotional intelligence and empathy, which are crucial in many jobs that involve human interaction. While AI can be a useful tool, it is not a substitute for human intelligence and creativity.

That being said, AI does have its strengths. It is very good at processing large amounts of data quickly and accurately, which makes it useful in fields such as finance and healthcare. It can also automate repetitive tasks, freeing up time for humans to focus on more complex and creative work.

However, we need to be careful not to rely too heavily on AI and to recognize its limitations. We should continue to develop and improve AI technology, but we should also value and prioritize human creativity, intuition, and emotional intelligence. Only then can we create a truly harmonious relationship between humans and AI, where both can work together to achieve our goals.

While AI has its uses and benefits, it is not a replacement for human intelligence and creativity. We must continue to value and prioritize the unique qualities that make us human, while also harnessing the power of AI to help us achieve our goals.
